Sunshine House is a mental health consumer program sponsored by Mental Health Association of St. Tammany. 

Sunshine House Philosophy:  Sunshine House adheres to the Fountain House Model of assisting individuals with mental illness. The model is sometimes called the "Club House Model" because individuals are referred to as consumers, and as consumers they have an active voice in the operation of the program.

Sunshine House consumers are an invaluable resource of support and care for other consumers with a mental illness. Some of the veteran consumers who are recovering from mental illness have wisdom to share with new consumers and those still struggling.

We believe, with proper medication and support, individuals with chronic mental illness can achieve rewarding and productive lives. We also believe our consumers have much to offer our community through such avenues as education, employment and the arts.

Sunshine House offers, through Psychosocial Skills Training, a unique combination of support services for individuals with a mental illness. The programs work in unison to enable our members to reach their potential and avoid re-hospitalization while contributing to our community.

The program is currently being held Monday through Thursday from 9:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. at Sunshine Village, 2600 Mary Drive, Slidell, LA.  (Click for map)  The second Monday of each month the consumers have an opportunity to participate in an Art Program being led by Bruce Hume, Director, Slidell Art League.
